Michael Mayo
President and CEO of Baptist Health
Michael A. Mayo, DHA, FACHE, is President and Chief Executive Officer of Baptist Health. Mayo has more than 32 years of health executive experience, including his most recent role as Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville. As CEO, he oversees five hospitals: Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville, Baptist Medical Center South, Baptist Medical Center Beaches, Baptist Medical Center Nassau and Wolfson Children’s Hospital, along with four satellite Emergency Centers, 55 primary care offices, more than 13,000 team members and 1,762 physicians.
Mayo earned his doctorate in health administration from the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, his Master of Science in healthcare administration from Texas Woman’s University, Denton, Texas, and his Bachelor of Science in human resource management from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa.
Board certified in healthcare management as an ACHE Fellow, Mayo served as the ACHE Regent for Florida—Northern and Western from 2017 to 2019, on the Healthcare Executive Editorial Board from 1993 to 1997, and on several ACHE committees. He serves on the Board of Governors of the American College of Healthcare Executives, an international professional society of more than 48,000 healthcare executives who lead hospitals, healthcare systems and other healthcare organizations. With comprehensive programs in credentialing, education, career counseling, publications and research, ACHE works toward its goal of being the preeminent professional society for leaders dedicated to advancing health. In addition to his service to ACHE, he serves as chair, Advisory Board, University of North Florida, Health Administration Program, and board member, University of North Florida, Brooks College of Health, Dean’s Council, and Community Hospice & Palliative Care, Jacksonville, Fla.
Mayo has been an adjunct professor, Master of Health Administration Program, at the University of North Florida, Brooks College of Health, Jacksonville, Fla., since 2016. In 2014, Mayo received the ACHE Regent Award, Senior Level. In 2015, he received the Service Award through the ACHE Recognition Program, and in 2021, the Distinguished Service Award.
